Christmas Card

As I was running thoughts through my head about this year's Christmas card I ran across one that I made several years ago.  The photo is one of my favorites.  It's a polaroid emulsion transfer that was a popular process in the 1990's and early 2000's.

It's made by printing a slide onto a certain type of polaroid film which I'm told is no longer available.  After printing the slide onto the film with a printer made for that purpose, the emulsion side of the photo is soaked in water, then transfered to a paper or other suitable surface.  I have used tile, and even metal as well as paper.  I love the squiggly lines around the finished product that are made by the edges of the emulsion.

This picture was made by sandwiching two slides together in the printer.  One was a photo of birds on a bush in the snow.  The other one was a photo of a full moon and clouds.
